[00:34]<2j22ddu>I have a question. When I access my Samba shares in another Windows computer, what do I do when the Windows computer says "Not accessible; maybe you do not mhave permission to access this network resource"
[00:38]<crdvfdg>Hi, I am having trouble being able to write to a samba file share. It's being hosted on a debian box, and I'm connecting from a debian box. The following is the share information in the config file: [stuff] | path = /mnt/hdd | comment = "Other Stuff" | browseable = yes | writable = yes | valid users = kaitlyn create mode = 0750 Can anyone tell me what I may be doing wrong?
[00:39]<2j22ddu>Nobody's here
[00:39]<crdvfdg>Lies.
[00:40]<2j22ddu>but have you tried to access sudo kcontrol ?
[00:40]<crdvfdg>Neither boxes have window manager.
[00:41]<2j22ddu>I think it would be beneficial for us to try the mailing list
[00:42]<crdvfdg>You have a problem too?
[00:47]<-- gjmrm9ww_rwrd xrs>http:www.devmatrix.org")
[01:24]<wnvudcr_jc>anyone there
[02:05]<crdvfdg>And the answer to my question: Use NFS. It takes 45 minutes longer to set up, but doesn't randomly commit suicide.
[03:01]<laaga>hey guys...
[03:02]<laaga>I'm having some trouble trying to setup samba with LDAP. I was able to setup the LDAP server and was able to have the computer join the Domain. However, after successfully creating a user using the smbldap tools, I can't login from my windows machine using that same login name
[03:02]<laaga>I'm getting the error ldapsam_search_one_group: Problem during the LDAP search: LDAP error: invalid DN (Invalid DN syntax) in my logs for samba
[03:03]<msm00w>what unintuitive step am i missing to make windows 2000 clients access a samba share?
[03:04]<laaga>http://pastebin.ca/105901
[03:04]<laaga>that is what I'm getting in my openldap logs...
[03:05]<laaga>it seems as though samba is able search the directory...but for some reason it can't find group information..
[03:13]<msm00w>how do i restart samba after changing SMB.conf?
[03:31]<msm00w>apparently didn't need to restart - just changed security=share and it now works
[04:37]<laaga>anyone here setup samba 3 with LDAP?
[05:28]<wlrvj>a good pdc howto?
[05:46]<laaga>I am reading the howto
[05:46]<laaga>I can add machines to the Domain
[05:46]<laaga>but I can't login with the users that I've created
[05:47]<laaga>everything looks good in the LDAP logs in terms of the queries....but something isn't right with Samba I think
[05:54]<wlrvj>poonj: what howto?
[06:39]<nrrfn1>what do I need to do in linux to get windows to mount a samba share by name instead of just by IP?
[06:39]<nrrfn1>like my server is called r225...if I type \\r225\share in windows, it can't find the share
[06:40]<nrrfn1>but if I do \\serverIP\share, it works
[06:40]<nrrfn1>if I try to do a name resolution of r225 in cmd in windows, it works fine
[06:43]<nrrfn1>nm, I think I figured it out
[06:57]<laaga>xpato, the smbldap-tools howto
[07:00]<laaga>I'm not quite sure what is wrong
[07:00]<laaga>authentication through LDAP is successful according to the LDAP logs..
[07:01]<laaga>the only thing that didn't seem to go right was this get_privileges: No privileges assigned to SIDget_privileges: No privileges assigned to SID
[07:01]<laaga>other than that, I can't login to the domain using the username created...
[07:05]<wggjyw>anyone here?
[07:40]<laaga>okay...now I think the problem is this..
[07:40]<laaga>Rejecting auth request from client DELL machine account DELL$
[07:40]<laaga>anyone here have an idea where I can look to fix that problem?
[07:41]<laaga>are machine accounts case sensitive?
[12:11]<nlydnvx>hello all
[12:13]<nlydnvx>I have set up a domain and everything is working great... except for that when I access the server through explorer (\\DSPNAME) I find a folder there with the name of the logged in user
[12:13]<nlydnvx>this wouldn't be a problem if it actually went into the user's home folder... instead it goes to the homes directory
[12:13]<nlydnvx>and then all of the directories are open for viewing... which I certainly do not want....
[12:13]<nlydnvx>[homes]
[12:13]<nlydnvx> comment = %u Home Directories
[12:13]<nlydnvx> path = /home
[12:13]<nlydnvx> read only = no
[12:13]<nlydnvx> browseable = no
[12:13]<nlydnvx> create mask = 0644
[12:13]<nlydnvx> directory mask = 0755
[12:14]<nlydnvx>is the bit from smb.conf
[12:14]<nlydnvx> logon drive = H:
[12:14]<nlydnvx> logon home = \\%L\homes\%u
[12:14]<nlydnvx>not that it should matter, but thats from [global]
[12:15]<nlydnvx>if anyone can help I'll be much obliged
[12:16]<nlydnvx>and for anyone who was here when I was having difficulty getting the PDC to work, turns out iptables was blocking netbios... anybody know what ports need to be open and for which protocols? I just turned both TCP and UDP on for all three (136-138)
[12:17]<nlydnvx>erm, 137-139 rather...
[14:42]<nlydnvx>anybody here??????
[14:42]<nlydnvx>I posted a question like 3 hours ago :-(

[16:06]<nlydnvx><epimeth> erm, 137-139 rather...
[16:16]<2urrr>hi, i just set up my samba server to use stunnel which seems to work now, i can download very fast from the smb, but uploading is painfully slow on a win2k3 client with ms loopback adapter, using localhost mount under linux works (fast upload). is there probably something with the win loopback interface that i have to set up?
[16:52]<nlydnvx>anybody here??? dm, what happened to you?
[16:52]<dd>epimeth im readying
[16:56]<dd>epimeth what says testparm??
[17:40]<wygwlnzv>epimeth, 137-139 + 445
[18:15]<nlydnvx>great... guess I missed you all again
[18:17]<nlydnvx>if you're around, winx, what's the 445 for? I don't have it enabled but everything seems to work fine...
