[00:42]<n-jnd>Hi
[00:44]<n-jnd>When I try to move a dir with samba between two harddisks I get this error: "Not on the same filesystem" I'm trying to fix is for a week
[00:44]<n-jnd>but I can't find a solution
[00:44]<n-jnd>Just one file is no problem.
[00:57]<xzznfmvm>Anyone uses smb4k? cos I get errors when trying to open the workgroup and the error is about my own server that seems to use vmnet8 and not eth0
[02:31]<2zrgypp>do i need CUPS to share a printer with samba??
[02:32]<2zrgypp>it's an openbsd server and an xp client
[03:14]<rqgzzrgvqq>Got a question: I'm running Ubuntu and everytime I reboot I have to restart the samba service for it to properly recognize my users.
[06:23]<rqgzzrgvqq>Samba init script not working on ubuntu restart. Any ideas?
[06:23]<pzrgc->no idea
[06:23]<pzrgc->perhaps this would be a better question in the ubuntu channel
[06:24]<pzrgc->as in the probably broke it
[06:24]<rqgzzrgvqq>I've tried. No one knows there either
[06:24]<rqgzzrgvqq>Well, it works if I restart the service
[06:24]<vyrn-vnzsr>Aberrant22: logs?
[06:25]<rqgzzrgvqq>Only thing that it says is that the file /etc/samba/smbusers doesn't exit
[06:25]<rqgzzrgvqq>*exist...which it doesn't, but I don't need it when I restart it
[06:25]<fxzzrfn>does /etc/samba/smbusers exist?
[06:25]<rqgzzrgvqq>No
[06:26]<wygxlnzvs>Aberrant22, did you upgrade from other source other than ubuntu's?
[06:27]<wygxlnzvs>they may have made some changes to t
[06:27]<wygxlnzvs>it
[06:28]<rqgzzrgvqq>No, I do have a different .conf tho
[06:28]<rqgzzrgvqq>well, I editted it according to a tutorial I saw
[06:28]<pzrgc->run testparm
[06:29]<rqgzzrgvqq>Says Loaded services file OK
[06:29]<rqgzzrgvqq>tho warning: passdb expand explicit = yes is deprecated
[06:30]<pzrgc->take it out
[06:31]<rqgzzrgvqq>Don't see it in my smb.conf file tho. Just have "passdb backend = tbdsam"
[06:33]<rqgzzrgvqq>and it works fine after I do a "sudo /etc/init.d/samba stop" "sudo /etc/init.d/samba start"
[06:33]<rqgzzrgvqq>So I'm wondering if it would pick up the wrong smb.conf file on system start
[06:40]<vyrn-vnzsr>what runlevel is it in? ...just wondering if something samba needs isn't available
[06:43]<rqgzzrgvqq>http://pastebin.ca/120019
[06:43]<rqgzzrgvqq>How do I tell what runlevel it is in?
[06:44]<rqgzzrgvqq>pastebin = my smb.conf file
[06:44]<vyrn-vnzsr> ls -al /etc/rc3.d | grep samba should be a symlink to /etc/init.d/samba
[06:46]<rqgzzrgvqq>lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2006-08-01 14:40 S20samba -> ../init.d/samba
[06:46]<vyrn-vnzsr>looks ok
[06:49]<rqgzzrgvqq>hrm, you know, might not be an issue with samba... It's when I connect with windows it says: An error occurred while reconnecting... The local device name is already in use'
[06:52]<vyrn-vnzsr>you only get that after a reboot?
[06:53]<rqgzzrgvqq>Yeah. If I restart the samba services, it works fine
[06:55]<rqgzzrgvqq>Okay, nm...when I rebooted the winxp vmware it didn't solve the problem
[06:55]<rqgzzrgvqq>So, I guess I'll just set up a script to stop and start samba everytime I open vmware (which is the only time I need the service anyways)
[07:30]<bsm>:)
[07:30]<bsm>elo
[07:30]<pzrgc->good night
[07:30]<bsm>can someone tell me where I can find out if samba v3 is supported on solaris 2.x
[07:30]<bsm>I need to know if it works on solaris 6,7,8,9
[07:30]<pzrgc->www.samba.org
[07:30]<bsm>and then for AIX 5.x
[07:30]<pzrgc->is my bet
[07:30]<pzrgc->I havbe to go
[07:30]<bsm>I looked there.
[07:32]<bsm>anyone else?
[07:32]<frve>Trying to get samba which is currently setup for local auth (xp machines are not in domain) working with AD so that AD machines can use samba, and non AD machines can also use samba.
[07:33]<frve>How would I go about doing this. The local accounts exist...the AD accounts and machines are new, and no AD accounts exist on the samba server.
[07:52]<frve>hmm
[08:40]<rupddycn>quick comprehension question: Samba users in the tdb password need to be unix users also, these users have a group defined in the unix system and I can set permission accordingly to the group? so same I have 3 groups called admin staff and users, with three dirs, update repuload and public_html, users can rw to update and ro public_html and 0 perms on reupload, while staff can rw both update and reupload and ro public_html.
[08:40]<rupddycn> user to be what they need to be (either staff/admin/user) then assign the group admin to own all dirs and then in the smb.conf add the force group = +staff for both reupload and for upload force group = +staff +users ?
[08:46]<rupddycn>oki, nm got the answer I need. its read only=+users, +staff for publc_html to read only. and so on
[09:25]<bsm>samba 3 supported by aix 5.3 ?
[09:44]<bsm>I need to check what OS's are supported using samba 3.x
[10:55]<prvrf->has something dramaticly changed "recently"; just trying to get anon fileshare set up for the lan and I just get "Server not using user level security and no password supplied." with smbclient using share-level config that used to work before
[11:35]<zj2nzv>hi
[11:36]<zj2nzv>Is there any option to enable file renaming over a samba share? because i can read, write, create files but i cannot rename them
[11:43]<rupddycn>robert check here: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/AccessControls.html
[11:48]<zj2nzv>ok but if i have w/r perm
[11:48]<zj2nzv>what can be the problem? it works with another share
[11:53]<rupddycn>robert I'm not thaqt advanced into samba and actually had been reading that page when you asked
[11:54]<zj2nzv>ah ok
[11:57]<rrffnn>hi, how can i disable sending broadcasts completely in smb.conf?
[12:37]<tdp>what's the command to view shares from the linux commandline?
[12:38]<tdp>I thought it was part of smbclient
[12:38]<tdp>I've looked on the smb web site, thought someone might know off the top of their head
[12:49]<anp>TDP: smbclient -L box
[12:51]<tdp>thanks jef
[12:51]<2urrr>hi, anyone tunneling samba thru stunnel and knows why sending from a windows client to samba unix server is painfully slow while sending from a linux client is fast (receiving on both clients is also fast)?
[12:59]<rrffnn>bucca: the tunnel doesnt let through broadcasts
[13:06]<ajjffyguw>how can i change samba password
[13:06]<ajjffyguw>remotely
[13:06]<ajjffyguw>using ssh
[13:11]<prvrf->I'll give a hint; the samba tools generally start with "smb" ...
[13:51]<pzymj>Has anyone working samba with openldap ?
[13:51]<pzymj>I just wanna ask for which schema is best to use with samba 3.0.14a-3sarge2
[14:08]<2urrr>callee: do you know how to fix that?
[14:13]<rrffnn>bucca: yes, by either setting up a wins server or bridging instead of tunneling
[14:14]<2urrr>callee: i set up the wins server
[14:15]<2urrr>callee: and even let it be set via dhcp on the clients
[14:19]<2urrr>callee: uploadinng files to the smb server is slow, downloading fast, so i dont think it has to to with wins; i even tried using only IPs
[14:54]<rrffnn>hmm
[14:55]<rrffnn>havent used samba much in the past either, i mostly used nfs until now
[16:20]<rntdpn>smb_add_request: request [cd29f080, mid=2218] timed out!
