[00:03]<ggjmygmgz>if you change the nice value, does it also change it's children?
[00:04]<rrmnsm_>NeoMinder, no, its not an effective way to avoid childsupport
[00:04]<ggjmygmgz>hahaha
[00:05]<rrmnsm_>seriously.. it should change the children.. at least those that are spawned after the change has made... man renice for details
[00:06]<ggjmygmgz>was just checking
[00:06]<ggjmygmgz>this is tru64
[00:09]<ygsjdgyr>man priocntl
[00:20]<lynz>somebody speak spanish?
[00:22]<ajzvys>what's the solaris equivalent of ifconfig output from linux? I want to see each of the network adapters and their current IP addresses
[00:23]<rrmnsm_>netstat -i it works in linux too
[00:23]<rnnyn>jorvis, ifconfig -a
[00:24]<ajzvys>thanks
[00:25]<lynz>somebody help me to boot cdrom sun 3000?
[00:25]<rrmnsm_>are you at the ok prompt?
[00:27]<ggjmygmgz>Dude. WTF is this shit. hahaha
[00:27]<ggjmygmgz>http://tinyurl.com/nnjev
[00:31]<lynz>jamesd_, yes
[00:31]<rrmnsm_>pier, run boot cdrom it should work
[00:31]<rrmnsm_>if the cdrom is set properly
[00:31]<lynz>jamesd_, the question is
[00:32]<lynz>(sorry for my english but is very poor)
[00:32]<rrmnsm_>run "boot cdrom"
[00:32]<lynz>what the livecd can use for this question?
[00:32]<lynz>yes jamesd_
[00:32]<lynz>but,
[00:33]<lynz>what livecd can use for this
[00:33]<rrmnsm_>you can use a solaris 8 or 9 or 10 (if the cpus are faster than 200mhz)
[00:33]<rrmnsm_>there really isn't a live cd for sparc boxes... only install disks
[00:33]<lynz>jamesd_, solaris for spark?
[00:34]<rrmnsm_>pier, if you have a sun ultra enterprise 3000.. then is a ultra sparc processor...
[00:34]<lynz>ok ok
[00:34]<lynz>can download the solaris cd from the www.sun.com?
[00:35]<rrmnsm_>yes... what does the system say when you first power it on?
[00:35]<lynz>jamesd_, i try to fix /etc/passwd
[00:35]<lynz>the solaris cd is a livecd or only is a cd installation?
[00:35]<rrmnsm_>what does the system say when you first power it on?
[00:36]<lynz>ok
[00:36]<lynz>i see the "ok" prompt (this is a view on tty console)
[00:37]<rrmnsm_>pier, run banner .. what does it print
[00:37]<lynz>jamesd_, what?
[00:38]<rrmnsm_>at the okay prompt.. type "banner" and press return
[00:38]<lynz>ok
[00:38]<lynz>jamesd_, at this moment dont try this
[00:39]<lynz>what is banner?
[00:39]<rrmnsm_>then go to www.sun.com and download solaris 8 .. it should work on that age of machine, since you can't tell me what cpus you have.. you will have to use 8...
[00:40]<lynz>ah ok ok
[00:40]<lynz>james
[00:40]<lynz>this solaris 8 cd is a livecd
[00:40]<lynz>or is cd installation?
[00:40]<lynz>or is cd installation?
[00:40]<lynz>(sorry for repeat)
[00:40]<rrmnsm_>its an installation cd, it has solairs on it.. so it will boot and you can mount the root drive
[00:41]<lynz>ok
[00:41]<lynz>ok
[00:42]<lynz>on the web, exist one document what explain this?
[00:44]<rrmnsm_>not that i know of
[00:45]<lynz>ok
[00:45]<lynz>thank very much
[00:51]<txgbjgsry>okay, a problem on linux, but maybe you guys can help me: LDAP/PAM/NSS. "getent passwd" shows my ldap test user (ldaptest), "getent passwd ldaptest" shows nothing. also anything referring to that username (su, passwd, ..) tell me "unknown id". on the machine where the LDAP service sits, i have a similar setup (difference is - from what i can see - only that the LDAP host is 127.0.0.1 there) and it works. logs are quiet. any hints where to
[00:51]<txgbjgsry>start searching?
[00:51]<txgbjgsry>whoops that was long..
[00:57]<-- sgvgzs xzs fuyv (>/dev/brain")
[01:00]<txgbjgsry>oh... even more weird: getent shadow ldaptest *shows* it... at least a point to dig deeper
[01:34]<furrr>are there any circumstances where a solaris server would be listening on a port, but that the port would not show up in netstat -a?
[01:34]<furrr>well, Legitimate circumstances
[01:35]<ggjmygmgz>uh
[01:35]<ggjmygmgz>no
[01:36]<furrr>thanks.
[02:21]<rycy_cym>is it common for pkg-get to ask me if I want to remove pkgs when running 'upgrade'?
[03:04]<ggjmygmgz>ECHO!
[03:17]<dzvzsvznzd>Morning
[03:17]<rrmnsm_>hi DataStream was it a hellish 35 minutes?
[03:18]<dzvzsvznzd>oh yeah
[03:19]<ggjmygmgz>35 min?
[03:19]<dzvzsvznzd>NeoMinder: jamesd thinks thats all the time i spend at work a night
[03:19]<dzvzsvznzd>when really it was about 2 hours :)
[03:20]<dzvzsvznzd>but it is friday

[03:21]<dzvzsvznzd>well in the US anyway
[03:23]<ggjmygmgz>must be a bad job.
[03:23]<dzvzsvznzd>it is, its shite
[03:30]<nnvwjpp>DataStream: you think you can get 4.1?
[03:30]<dzvzsvznzd>Netwolf: im working on it
[03:30]<nnvwjpp>k00l
[03:31]<rrmnsm_>DataStream, any updates on when your x4200 is going to arrive
[03:32]<dzvzsvznzd>yeah i was told today sun delivery date to my house is the 26th
[03:32]<rrmnsm_>thats good..
[03:33]<dzvzsvznzd>not really, 3-4 weeks after the order is not really great, but apparently sun have said there is alot of unhappy people at the mo over here
[03:33]<dzvzsvznzd>cause they havent got machines out in time, and their is a backlog
[03:34]<dzvzsvznzd>starting to think i should have taken that X4100
[03:34]<dzvzsvznzd>but hey, its only 9 days now
[03:45]<rrmnsm_>DataStream, yeap and think of the 50 pounds you have probably saved allready.
