[00:01]<ajc_z0>Works well, especially if you're a violent frunk
[00:01]<ajc_z0>or a violent drunk
[00:07]<ggjmygmgz>heh

[03:51]<sdgdg_>hello folks
[03:51]<rrmnsm>hi
[03:51]<sdgdg_>anyone ever heard of a program "crvs" I'm scowering the net with no useful returns
[03:52]<sdgdg_>my install keeps asking for it
[03:52]<rrmnsm>nope
[03:52]<rrmnsm>install of what
[03:52]<sdgdg_>asterisk
[04:15]<_nzya2>asterisk on solaris ? Svnvn ?
[04:15]<_nzya2>oh he's gone
[04:17]<rrmnsm>hi ericb
[04:21]<_nzya2>hi jamesd
[05:05]<rsayyy>how to share a folder in solaris?
[05:05]<r9fv-u70>solaris doesn't have folders
[05:06]<racfgg>asciii: nfs
[05:06]<rsayyy>yea..nfs i did that
[05:06]<rsayyy>still cant access from windows
[05:06]<rrmnsm>asciii, check out samba.. ask google
[05:06]<racfgg>don't know much about windows, but it surely has nfs client software
[05:07]<rsayyy>share -F nfs /Desktop/shared
[05:07]<rsayyy>thats all need to be done in solaris right?
[05:08]<lnnzan>um, there's 3rd party NFS clients for windows, but they don't work real well. windows security model is considerably different than unix
[05:08]<lnnzan>as are its file and record locking semantics.
[05:08]<rsayyy>hrm
[05:08]<lnnzan>use samba on the sun to share directories with windows systems.
[05:09]<lnnzan>www.samba.org, I believe.
[05:09]<lnnzan>there should be a samba port built into solaris 10, I think?
[05:09]<rsayyy>yea
[05:11]<racfgg>yeah, you're right, samba's a better bet
[05:15]<rsayyy>i agree
[05:17]<rrmnsm> anyone know if link#1 hme1 <----> dumb switch <----> box #2 and link#2 hme <---> cross over cable <----> box #2 ... then trunk Link #1 and #2 ... then possibly add a second ip# to the first box's hme and have it be on another network that is flowing through the switch
[05:17]<racfgg>whoa
[05:18]<racfgg>I've only set up trunking on solaris 8, are hme devices supported now?
[05:19]<rrmnsm>i think so...
[05:19]<rrmnsm>i think it works above the hardware level so it should work
[05:22]<racfgg>I'll research a bit as we've got a lot of trunking configs at work
[05:22]<racfgg>is this a sol 10 box?
[05:22]<rrmnsm>yes
[05:28]<racfgg>that's right, sun no longer calls it trunking
[05:28]<racfgg>now it's "link aggregation"
[05:30]<racfgg>€jamesd: tell me if you get it to work, but it looks like "Interfaces must be of the GLDv3 type: xge, e1000g, and bge"
[05:30]<rrmnsm>okay i will give it a try
[05:30]<racfgg>the software we have for solaris 8 only supports qfe, ce, and one other
[05:30]<racfgg>I've tried to get it working on hme's without luck
[05:31]<racfgg>but this is solaris 8 we're talking about
[05:31]<zjmzyac2zjwg>jamesd, you got the interface to work?
[05:31]<rrmnsm>well the qfe is nothing but 4 hme's on a single card
[05:31]<rrmnsm>yes
[05:31]<rrmnsm>it was the tu driver
[05:31]<racfgg>http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/816-4554/6maoq01nk?a=view
[05:31]<zjmzyac2zjwg>what driver were you trying before?
[05:32]<rrmnsm>alta
[05:32]<zjmzyac2zjwg>o'h yeah heeh
[05:32]<zjmzyac2zjwg>its always good to know your hardware
[05:33]<rrmnsm>yeah but it was a present so how could i know
[05:35]<rrmnsm>so far this week 2 of 2 networking problems have been solved by people in asia
[05:50]<rrmnsm>okay its not working with the built-in agregator in solaris express
[06:16]<rrmnsm>Jul 21 22:11:18 frankenstein trslm: [ID 243772 kern.notice] NOTICE: trunk link (tu0): DL_NOTIFY_ACK: Aggregation capability not supported: Notifications = 0x7
[06:17]<rrmnsm>damm trunking doesn't even work on the one i thought pretty much guaranteed to work on the quad FE card i have
[07:54]<rrmnsm> okay since everyone is bored i have one more networking question internet ---> router/firewall 192.168.1.1 <----> 192.168.1.16 solaris 10 box 192.168.2.16 <---> other boxes 192.168.2.x ... the question is does the solaris 10 box need both ip_forwarding and ip_routing enabled ?
[07:58]<slzzamz>i think so, probably
[08:12]<nnvwjpp>jamesd: yes
[08:12]<nnvwjpp>jamesd: basically the solaris 10 box is a bridge between the two networks
[08:12]<rrmnsm>cool thanks i thought so
[08:13]<rrmnsm>yeap
[08:13]<nnvwjpp>a better solution would be a transparent bridge...
[08:13]<nnvwjpp>either that, your can NAT all the data..
[08:13]<rrmnsm>well there are stuff on the bridge that i need both to access.
[08:13]<nnvwjpp>which is what you're doing anyways :)
[08:14]<rrmnsm>and who knows i may get carried away and do more than just one port to one port since the bridge has gigabit + a quad 100mbit adapter
[08:16]<rrmnsm>ii really wanted to do trunking but my nics aren't compatible with trunking
[08:24]<zxzzfyns>how the hell can it be 90 degrees at 10:30 at night?? Ugh..
[08:25]<zxzzfyns>jamesd: I think layer 2 bridge support is only in opensol..
[08:27]<rrmnsm>well b39 is on the bridge box
[08:27]<zxzzfyns>http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/ethbridge/ .. oh.
[08:27]<zxzzfyns>yea, looks like "not yet" from the website.
[08:28]<lnnzan>geez, bsd and linux have had that for ages, no?
[08:28]<lnnzan>even windwos XP has a layer 2 bridge.
[08:28]<rrmnsm>sun used sunscreen to do it before and they didn't want to effect the food chain
[08:28]<zxzzfyns>right. consumer OSes have more of a need for bridges..
[08:29]<zxzzfyns>jamesd: .1q is probably best, but that sucks in solaris too :(
[08:29]<zxzzfyns>I never actually got a supposedly supported NIC working.. used bsd instead.
[08:31]<rrmnsm>ip_forwarding is not enough.. i tried it.. packets got to the target but never made them back with just ip_forwarding.
[08:32]<zxzzfyns>well routing too I guess. haven't used solaris as a router since SunOS .. and that was very brief :)
[08:32]<zxzzfyns>on a related note, it's interesting how even SunScreen is so much better than iptables
[08:34]<rrmnsm>on linux i always used shorewall it made the whole mess a lot easier... even made src firewalling easy.. remote host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx was allowed in everyone else wasn't.. i had about 4 or 5 rules like that
[08:35]<zxzzfyns>yea.. that helps. But it's soo much better with pf :)
[08:36]<rrmnsm>pf and ipf gives me headaches....
[08:36]<zxzzfyns>and now that FreeBSD has pf, I can use it! (theo.. ugh. I won't use openbsd)
[08:36]<zxzzfyns>hehe
[08:36]<rrmnsm> /lastlog floyd
[08:38]<zxzzfyns>peerce:? how so?
