[18:39]<kzfzvnzz>hi guys i have a problem with my tomcat
[18:42]<xzzljjg>nothing special. everyone has any problem with tomcat
[18:43]<xzzljjg>the next step would be to tell us the specific problem
[18:43]<kzfzvnzz>i see these message :
[18:43]<kzfzvnzz>INFO: Installing web application at context path /giros_ from URL file:/opt/tomcat5/webapps/giros_
[18:43]<kzfzvnzz>log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (org.apache.catalina.session.ManagerBase).
[18:43]<kzfzvnzz>log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
[18:43]<kzfzvnzz>any ideA?
[18:44]<kzfzvnzz>my server is up but applications cannot response
[18:45]<xzzljjg>no. sorry. i could not remember having such a problem
[18:55]<gjfrg_t66>Do you have log4j jar or any config files in the app that's trying to be deployed?
[18:55]<gjfrg_t66>any log4j config files that is
[18:56]<gjfrg_t66>normally log4j issues won't cause apps not responding though - there is prolly another problem for that..
[18:59]<nmmdv>Has anyone here successfully installed Tomcat for Apache 2.0.x?
[19:05]<vvw>I am trying to install two Tomcat 5.5.7 instances on the same machine as a windows service. I had no problems installing both of them as a service. Each one runs also perfectly, but I cannot let them run together.
[19:09]<zzgmznw>tvw: why?
[19:09]<zzgmznw>tvw: why cannot you let them run together?
[19:15]<vvw>randrew: I setup an extra ip for the second tomcat, and made the change to server.xml. The first one also watches on an extra ip and not on localhost. But it seems as if tomcat is listening to other ports to. Tomcat complained about a port already bound. If I remember it right, 8009 (I did it at work, no I am watching football ;-)
[19:16]<vvw>If I stop the tomcat, which ran first, then I can start the other one and vice versa.
[19:20]<zzgmznw>tvw: you may find port 8009 referenced in server.xml. both tomcat's can't use the same port.
[19:25]<vvw>In server.xml you will find quite a few port and since I did not know wether I should change them all, I changed all localhost to the ip-address I use - with little success. Now both were running, but one will stop when accessing an url.
[19:26]<vvw>Maybe somebody knows about a howto or documentation, which covers this problem.
[19:27]<zzgmznw>tvw: are you using tomcat stand alone or behind apache?
[19:28]<nmmdv>Service finished with status=404 for worker=ajp13
[19:28]<vvw>standalone.
[19:28]<nmmdv>what can be the problem?
[19:30]<zzgmznw>tvw: port 8009 is typically used for ajp connector. You don't need that enabled.
[19:32]<vvw>Argentina almost made the second goal, uuh. OK: I also thought to start the second try with the server-minimal.xml. Maybe this makes things easier.
[19:33]<zzgmznw>tvw: that will probably make things work, because servier-minimal.xml requires more ports. I suggest you look at the content of the files.
[19:33]<zzgmznw>sorry s/work/worse/ !!
[19:33]<zzgmznw>: )
[19:34]<vvw>You mean, less code, more defaults, ok.
[19:35]<zzgmznw>oops. sorry again, they are equivalent in port use.
[19:36]<nmmdv>?
[19:36]<zzgmznw>the default server.xml is just a big mess of comments; if you strip them out the file is quite comprehensible. you will need the comments as a reference, but it's handy to have them separate.
[19:36]<zzgmznw>it uses ports 8005, 8009, and 8080
[19:37]<zzgmznw>both do
[19:38]<vvw>Yes, there is a lot to read in the server.xml. So if I either change the ip or the portnumber, it should work?
[19:39]<vvw>Yes Yes Yes, Germany made a goal!!!!
[19:39]<zzgmznw>port 8009 you don't need in standalone. port 8005 is a control port it's best to leave that on localhost - so you need to change the portnumber.
[19:39]<zzgmznw>For port 8080, if you change it things should work.
[19:40]<vvw>8080, what is it for?
[19:43]<zzgmznw>You will need to find that out for yourself, it's quite important.
[19:44]<vvw>Ok ;-) then you mean it is used for the http in the default configuration. I forgot, because I changed it to 80 months ago.
